I just got an e-mail from our Bernina/Babylock dealer that this new Bernette is available now for Christmas & is high quality of the Bernina line. It almost looks to me like Pfaff Passport in some ways. Info in e-mail....".Now in stock the new Bernette Chicago Sewing and Embroidery machine.

Anyone see it yet? What do you think? .........This is definitely not a good time for me personally to buy a sm. But the e-mail makes it intriguing....I don't know I have always kinda liked the Bernettes of higher line like the 90E use to be. ....

DH eye tumor is starting to shrink! Yipee!! This is very good news.
My kid brother had a triple bypass ..he made it.through the surgery okay. Please keep him in your prayers. A long road to recovery ahead, as more heart issues found. Still so glad he is okay.

Unfortnately this wouldn't be a great embroidery machine, with a 4 x 7 fields. As most designs are designed for 4 x 4 or 5 x 7 or above. So you call really only do 4 x 4 which in this day and time is pretty limiting. Considering you can get a machine under $1000 with a 5 x 7 field. This probably isn't that great of a buy.

I thought about that too. Why on earth do a 4x7 field? I guess they think it would give a digitizer the extra few inches over the 4x4. But, anyone who is digitizing, would probably have a machine that at least does the 5x7 to 6x10 field.
It's considered a beginner machine, I guess to see if you like embroidery w/o spending a fortune. But, there are many 5x7 machines cheaper than that to test out embroidery.

Agree..

So I tell you what I think.. I think once again Bernina is trying to get away with giving you the least for your money.. And I do truly wonder if Bernina even makes that model. or if its made by another company and just putting the Bernette name on it..
Frankly.. I would not buy it and don't know why anyone would..

Ohhhh Southern....

What machines are you referring to that are inexpensive and do 5x7?

I have a friend looking for a sewing/embroidery combo that will accommodate 5x7... and it sure seems that as soon as you get into 5x7, the prices skyrocket.

I recall reading that it was going to be around $1000-1300. Not too bad really.

One local dealer has the other "new Bernettes" on "year end model closeout" for $299-599 for the 15, 20, and 25.

I am very unfamiliar with any embroidery features. The only thing that I think of for machine embroidery is monogram... too small for that ??? .....

Just wondered if anyone has seen the sm at the dealer yet? ... ours has not had any Bernettes in a very very long time.

Well the 4x7 may come in handy if you want to merge designs. At least it is better than the emb entry machines with up to 4x4.
My entry level Janome 350e did up to 5x7 and was $1200 at the time. The Bernina deco rebranded that as a Deco- it also did a PES - at least that is what I heard.
I thought the Sofia2 was just a 4x4? I also found a steep price jump at 5x7.
I suspect it is not a Bernina made machine and will accept a more common file type though. It sounds to be OK as a portable.

It's full "name" is Chicago 7. Seems the 7 is from the 7mm stitch width...but really all I can think of when I see that name is the Chicago 7 trial in 1969.
