I bought a used Symphony from a dealer a few months ago. Usually the low bobbin thread warning pops up when the bobbin is about to run out of thread - but not always.

The first couple of times the warning failed to appear and I sewed the bobbin out of thread, it happened with bobbins that came with the machine already wound. So I assumed it was something funky with those bobbins.

But this time it happened with a bobbin that I wound myself on the machine.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi,I'm not familiar with a Baby Lock Symphony low bobbin sensor.
Maybe there is a bit of lint on the bobbin sensor "eye" on your sewing machine.

On my low bobbin sensor sewing machines I know where the low bobbin sensor "eye" is located.I make sure that area is always lint free, after I finish sewing for the day.

Online I read a year ago people were having problems with the Baby Lock Symphony low bobbin sensor.I would bring my machine back to the dealer to get it serviced for free,if I recently bought a new or used sewing machine that has continuous problems with the low bobbin sensor.

My dealer gave me a one year warranty on a 30 years old Pfaff sewing machine I bought used a few years ago.

I never had a problem on my babylock espire which is the one before the symphony so I would take it in, sounds like something is malfunctioning, if its still under the warranty they gave you they should fix it

Thanks everyone!

Lint is a real possibility. I've had the machine only a short while but I sewed a carload of fleece bathrobes for Christmas this year (and then pet coats out of the fleece scraps).

I didn't see anything about this problem in the owners manual, but I'm sure the manual will explain how to clean the bobbin area. I'll give that a try first and hopefully that will be a quick and easy fix.

If that doesn't work, I guess it will have to go back.

Hoping all your Symphony needs is cleaning.

Machines with drop-bobbins require cleaning more often than machines with end or front loading bobbins.

To thoroughly clean, you will need to remove the throat/needle plate and clean the area around the race as well as the bobbin case.

I use cotton swabs, which grab gobs of lint and fuzz.

The little flat screw driver that comes with modern machines are awkward for me, so my husband bought stubby screwdrivers for my top loaders.

I wish the manufacturers would bring back the lever opening needle plate like Singer had on the Touch N Sew and Rocketeer!
