I am considering a 3rd machine. I have a Featherweight 221, which I recently inherited and love, and a Bernina 240 Activa for most of my quilting, however the throat space is lacking for larger quilts. I have an opportunity to buy a Bernina 440QE for less than $2000, The Juki TL2010Q gets great reviews, but I have not seen one. Several large quilts are in my future plans and I like quilting them myself. My accessories would be interchangeable between the two Berninas, but I am not sure the 440QE will accommodate quilts much better than what I have. Advice??

The Bernina 440 has not got a large harp size.
I would surely go for the Juki machine.

I have not found a dealer in South Carolina. Any advice on buying this machine online?

Check Ed Raichert. Great prices and support. Juki customer service is very good about helping customers who purchase online, too. They have several dealers that they have authorized for online sales.

Sorry I live in Europe so I can't help much on giving names of dealers in the USA.
I'm sure many here will be able to help you though.

I also second the Juki. I've heard it does good FMQ, though I haven't tried that yet! Used ones do come up for sale pretty often on SewItsForSale. Allbrands sells them online as well.

It does sound like you'd get more benefit from that wider harp since the current 2 can do everything else well... you need that space and you'll enjoy the speed, lighting and cutter too!

I also vote for the Juki -- it's a great machine.

Ken's Sewing Center has a 13% Off Sale thru Jan. 1. Call them to see if it applies to the machine you want. They have a juki2013 coupon code for 10% on Juki machines through December 31, 2013.

Although I LOVE the 440QE, for FMQ and any sewing which is ss only, I would go for the Juki. It is a WONDERFUL machine.

I own both of these machines and they are both good solid machines. Will you miss having more stitch options for any other sewing?

Sewing machines make me happy. I like sewing with them, cleaning them, petting them, gazing longingly at them.
