Is anyone familiar with this line of Janome machines Apparently, the JW means it was made for Walmart sales only and maybe to their spec. I am thinking of it for a GDIN who thinks she wants to learn to sew. I don't want to put much into it as I have no idea if she will stick with it. On the other hand, hate to get her one that she will have trouble with every time she starts to use it. Thanks for your response.

The JW7522 would be a great first machine. You can adjust the width and length plus the machine has a full metal frame under the plastic. Nice and sturdy and a great price. I find it attractive, not boring at all and she can add a sticker or two to personalize.

I doubt if Walmart has any "specs" when it comes to what they sell, just what is economical and will sell well.

The JW may just mean Janome made for Walmart in general.

It has a one step BH which is cool for a low cost machine. But...it does have a vertical bobbin...so would your GDIN be OK with that?
All things considered...I bet you a button it's a fine machine to learn with. Walmart also has a good return policy within 30 to 90 days of purchase depending on the item ...so be sure to save its box AND the styrofoam and everything actually for that full return time frame. Maybe good idea for you to keep the receipt stored safely for its full warranty period...you didn't mention how old GDIN is.

Thank you - funny I have looked at so many machine specs lately, I didn't even notice that this one had a vertical bobbin. Since she has never sewn on a machine before, I don't think it will be a problem. If I get it, I will post a review after I have tried it out.

I've seen more than a few beginners mangle threading a vertical bobbin case...but these days there are a *few* good youtube videos on how to do that...and once a person knows the right way...it really is simple. The other issue is if there is a jam and a beginner gets the race apart to untangle a jam...it can be the worst puzzle to get it back together correctly...but yet again there are a few good youtube videos on that too. Even though the manuals are clearly instructive I think...sometimes it's nicer to actually see a video demo of things.

Besides it's good to know how to use a vertical bobbin...just to know. And...some prefer it over a horizontal drop-in bobbin.

Edited to add: Are you ordering it online and having it sent to her?
Be sure to have a gift receipt included...and check out getting an extended warranty through Walmart when it's ordered. (NAYY) Not Affiliated Yadda Yadda

Just noted that it only has a 3 point feed dog...so that could be an issue if she wants to sew very heavy fabric...but there is a reply in the Walmart Q&A section from Janome America that this model does sew heavy fabrics.

It looks to be the same as the Janome 2222.

Janome rehashes models all the time. This may have been sold as a Kenmore model a few years ago.
