I have not embroidered in a while-- and my how fast the world changes.

What I have now is: A newer laptop with Windows 8 -- a number of Anita Goodesign disk and a little Brother PE-770.

The old Tajima software AG used to give you on her disk does not come on the newer disk and wouldn't run on Windows 8 anyway.

So...now I am considering buying the Brother Design Plus just so I can keep going on with my little PE-770. I am not in a position yet to upgrade to a higher embroidery machine.

I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT EMBIRD. I am having bad luck lately with internet downloads.

I just want to know-- will Design Plus work with Windows 8, can I just buy it, upload the disk and get on with it-- or am I going to get stuck spending all this money and then have to sit here still updating what I just paid a lot of money for?

I looked at the Brother website and I find some of the information inconsistant-- I just thought if there is anyone out there using Design Plus on Win 8 with a PE-770, maybe they could reassure me.

Thank You in advance, I genuinely appreciate it. "Computer Problems" give me anxiety....so pardon the anxiety in my post.

Yes pe design plus does work on windows 8 I however cannot recommend for the price it is not feature rich, not the easiest user platform, for me it was a waste of money, You are better of getting designers gallery embroidery works, it runs for about the same price and you can do so much more with it. I am still debating selling mine or keeping mine for upgrading to digitizing if I need to later as I have only used it twice, and both times only for the photostitch feature. Embroidery works is a much better designed software and you can do alot more for it and for 200 dollars more you can get the advanced version which to me has been the most comprehensive software on the market without digitizing, just go to babylocks website and they should have a link to designers gallery software. Embrilliance essentials is similar software designed by the same one that made embroidery works and you can buy each portion individually instead of all at once, embroidery works everyday basic should be cheaper than pe design plus and you can add advanced later as well. It is about a hundred dollars cheaper for embroidery works everyday without advanced

I ended up calling the Brother company. I was told as long as it was the PE Design Plus 1.0 it would run on Windows 8. The thing is...you don't know what version you have til you run the disk. The man told me if it required an update, the computer would flag it upon registration and it could update through the Brother website to run on 8. Anyway---I bought it at my local shop, not for full price, but I could have done better online. On the other hand...I want to have shop support. Honestly....it all cost too much if you ask me. Once you go down the rabbit hole its never ending. I watched some YouTube's on the design plus, it seemed relatable to me....and I will have no sense or understanding or opinion of it until I get going....as I have no prior experience to compare.
Since I dont know any better.....Ill post an update in a few days to share how its going.

Thank you for your response n thoughts Brotherlover.

I got the program installed on Windows 8 tonight with no issues. The form of Registration Completion through the Brother website also identifies the software as Windows 8 compatible-- No updates were necessary. I printed a two Registration Completion papers so I can take one to my local shop, so they will have something to show other customers who have the same concern I did.

I have just futzed around with a couple of built in tuturials and got the "lay of the land" so to speak, but I am finding it easy to comprehend and the manual is easy to follow with nice step by step hand holding and good visuals. The manual is more than I expected really.

I could not open the program without the card reader device plugged into my computer. I do not know if there is a setting I can change since I really don't need the card writer, or if that is something I will just have to accept, but I guess I will figure that out.

In a few days when I am actually able to accomplish some tangible work with it-- I will post again.

Nope have to have card reader, very annoying, another reason I hardly use my pe design plus is having that dongle. embroidery works doesn't have a dongle, another reason I love it so much more than pe design, but I hear for digitizing pe design is one of the better ones so that is whats compelling me to hold onto it for the cheaper upgrade, just not the best editing software on the market.

You have to have the card reader plugged in or the software will not run. It is essentially a hardware "key" that tells the software that it is a licenses copy. You can install you PE Design Plus on multiple computers (say one desktop, one laptop, etc.) but it will only run on one at a time because it requires the reader (aka security device.)

As far as learning the program, the best thing I can recommend is Cindy Hogan's book Autodigitizing's So Easy with PLUS. It's on sale right now for $79 instead of $90. I have her book for PE Design NEXT and although it wasn't cheap, it's the best thing I've purchased for embroidery.
