I want to insert in-seam pockets into a jersey maxi dress (McCalls 6559), using my serger. Looking at my RTW garments, they have what looks like a sort-of French seam at the front of the garment, which is overstitched on the front " or so on the front, and the pocket piece of the back appears serged in along with the seam. I would like to copy this technique but I've been trying to figure it out and getting nowhere. Does anyone know how this is done? I have taken photos on my iPhone, but I can't figure out how to send them. (Pretty useless, aren't I?)

Is the 'overstitch' part with the regular sewing machine, topstitched? If so, I found this blog which describes the technique I'm thinking of.

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

The front pocket is topstitched, yes. I checked the blog to referred to. It could well be that this is what I was looking for. I'm going to try it in a sample tomorrow and see if it works. Thank you so much! xx

Dear Anne
It worked! Thank you so much. I think I should post the technique and the blog link to the site, so others can benefit from it. Dont know quite how to do this yet, but I'll try to figure it out.
