Hi everyone!

I am happy to follow up and say that I finally was able to make a purchase that feels good!

It was a hard decision and in the end it came down to a used Bernina 430, a new Viking Opal 670, or a used Viking Sapphire 870.

I tested out a version of all the machines, and it was a tough choice! The Bernina that I test drove at the dealer (a 350) sewed amazingly, however the 430 that I was considering was pushing my budget quite a bit and I was hesitant about not having a warranty and the same level of dealer support as if I had purchased it new. The same was more or less true of the 870. I was mostly considering this machine vs the Opal because of the sensor system, but there was the age of the machine and the lack of warranty to consider.

So in the end, I went with the Opal 670. Don't get me wrong, it was hard to say no to a "good deal" on the Bernina 430 and the Sapphire 870, knowing that I was getting a very high quality machine at a great price, but in the end I had to go with my gut, which was telling me that for my first machine it would be best to have it new and have everything covered, along with free classes and all that jazz.

So far, everything is great. I sewed for a couple of hours tonight to get the hang of the machine and a feel for how it sews! I am very happy with it so far; thankful that I finally got my VERY NICE Christmas present, and relieved that I have a machine/sale/dealer that I am very comfortable with.

That being said... any Opal/Viking owners that have tips/things I need to be aware of? :-)

Hope everyone had a happy new year!

Look up Heirloom Creations on YouTube. The blond lady runs Heirloom Creations Quilt Shop and is a Bernina/Viking dealer. She just put a series of tutorial videos up recently on the Opal and you may find them very helpful.

Good Luck!

Congrats! I hope this is the one for you after all you've been through.

I need to set up my lesson and test drive my machine. I was thinking of aprons too and was wondering what pattern you were going with for your first project?
