I have a Kenmore 18221 sewing machine which I bought at Sears before they stopped selling machines in the store. I was wondering is there a way to raise the foot for very thick fabrics. My old machine did this and I really don't see how to raise it. Thanks for your help. By the way this is one nice machine especially for the price I paid

If the foot can be raised to more than one position, it should be addressed in the manual for the machine.

I have two of these machines and the 16221(yep, I love 'em). To raise the foot higher for bulk items, lift up on the presser foot lever. In other words, after you have lifted the lever to raise the foot to the "up" position, continue to lift the lever.

I just did a huge wrapped rope basket using this machine, it has so much power and just fun to use...agree, love this machine!

There are two up positions...the one that stays up once it's lifted and an extra bit of height that has to be held up until the fabric is under the foot. You old machine should have functioned the same way.
