My beloved Viking 1+ may have bit the dust. My Pfaff 1222e is doing well But it needs a new camstack. But I am really missing my computerized machine. I am been dreaming of a new machine with a larger harp anyway, so started a list of what I want in a new machine (if the money fairy pays me a visit).
Front loading bobbin
thread cutter
low bobbin warning
Lots and lots of stitches
Lots and lots of needle positions
High lift foot
Wonderful straight stitch
Beautiful buttonholes
easy to keep clean, easy access to all those areas where the thread and lint likes to hide
beautiful alphabets
ability to create own stitches.
Sideways sewing
great lighting
LARGE HARP SPACE for quilts
Great FMQ
Lots of presser feet that don't cost more than the electric bill
knee lift, because I've never had a machine with one
Good big heavy foot control that doesn't constantly walk away on me
Ability to update (remember when they advertised that the Viking 1+ would be a forever machine, always up-datable??)
Strong motor
Ability to wind bobbin without unthreading
permanent reverse
Stop button
Good warning system when you are doing something wrong (Dear Viking 1+, I sincerely apologize for all the times I yelled at you when you were just trying to warn me that I was messing up..... my bad)

So....what would you add to my list????
It would be so nice if they would just remake the Viking 1+ but stretch it out for harp space and KEEP MAKING THE PARTS FOR IT!!!!

How much money can you spend?!?!?

PS... send that money fairy my way if she has anything left after springing for these features.

Yes, they do make it. Either a 7 or 8 series Bernina. :)

You would have more options if you opened it up by eliminating the front load bobbin requirement.

it doesn't matter what type of sewing you do. you are sewing, and sewing is good.

I'll narrow that further; a Bernina 780 or an 8 series. The 710 and 750 don't do sideways/multi-directional stitching.

But the 780 and 820/830 get KO'd from the list on the accessory/feet prices.

The feet are less than half of my electric bill! ;)

They average about 3 times mine, lol! I'll stop whinging about my electric bills every month now.

I was going to suggest a Bernina as well. I have the 580 but it doesn't have the larger space for quilting. I try to plan my feet purchases to coincide with their sales, but that doesn't always work out. I think the feet and bobbin costs are the only downers on this machine.

The 580 also doesn't have the sideways motion stitches.

Oh, another strike for all the Berninas; only 11 needle positions.

What we need is a Pfaffina or Bernaff.

I think Bernin is the only one with front loading bobbins and pop off needle plate that makes cleaning out the lint sooooo easy. But you'll need a 7 or 8 series to get the large harp. The feet are not as expensive as I expected and do the job amazingly!
