Hi out there, I am in the UK and have just returned to sewing after retiring. One of the last things I made was my wedding dress 30 years ago. I think I must have forgotten more than I knew then lol. I have made a couple of cushion covers recently each better than the last. I am now making a top for myself. My problem really is remembering which were the best patterns for my body. Probably because not only because patterns have changed but also my body haha. I have a Janome 525s which I upto now I adore. I hope to get loads of tips and advice from you all and grow in convidence. Thank you for reading. X

Welcome to PR and back to sewing. I made my wedding gown as well 50+ years ago. Gave up for a while during the eighties, then went back to sewing for myself when RTW went too dumpy for my taste.

Once I figured out which flaws (mine, not the pattern) needed adjusting, sewing became more fun and more successful.

Best wishes for many sucessful projects!

Welcome back to sewing--this is a fun place to hang out and definitely a great place to learn and grow in your skill. I agree that finding out what alterations you need personally on your patterns is a real key to success. Everyone's body changes over time, and now you can create your own preferences in style and make the best of your "new body"

I like to go to the review gallery and in particular read the reviews more closely of people that look closet to my body type. Might be a place to start. So many helpful reviewers and you can see which patterns they have used with the greatess success! Welcome to a fun website!

Welcome!
Love the across-the-ocean friends, all the way to the Aussies.
We always find new patterns, tips, ideas thru you gals.

Plus we are addicted to your shows on Netflix, so much better than US TV drivel, where nobody actually acts anymore. (Just saw 5 ads for new dumb "reality" shows.)
Downton Abbey is the highest rated PBS show ever now.

Welcome! You are going to have a lot of fun and make clothes you adore.
But seriously, measure yourself and measure your patterns and you will be fine.

Welcome back to sewing. Body changes are what many of us are struggling with - trying to understand what works. Now that you are retired you probably have different wardrobe needs also.

What I was excited about (other than discovering FBA) was the many wonderfull independent pattern companies. Check out StyleArc.

I agree with looking through the pattern reviews to find someone with a similar body type as yours.

Thank you all for the encouraging comments. I think it will be trial and error at first. If I can figure out how to add pictures through an iPad I would show you my first attempts.
