I want to make a wiggle dress but I'm stuck on what fabric to use. It's from Gertie's book & she suggests wool crepe, but it's expensive for what I'd like to be a wearable muslin. I think fabric with stretch would be best, but I don't have a serger/overlocker and I've never sewn with jersey before.

I'm wary of polyester mixes, but not sure if they would work?

Any suggestions as to a good, inexpensive fabric to use?

What about a stretch woven? A dress weight stretch sateen or stretch poplin may work. Or a poly rayon Lycra (frequently called rpl)

I avoid poly anything but what about a ponte...rayon blend or a wool blend? I would think it would make a very comfortable dress.

I've been wanting to try this pattern too and I hadn't thought of ponte! I bet that would work great and be comfy too. Thanks for the idea!

Ooh thank you everyone. I find it so confusing looking at fabrics. I think I'm going to try with ponte and also buy a book on fabric types. I'll hopefully be brave enough to post here once I'm done!

Made it in sateen stretch cotton and in a jersey.

Both work great but watch out with the sizing.....hips come out way too big
