Which side is the right side?

Just got sweatshirt fleece from Joanne Fabric to make an unstructured jacket. Question: does the flat knit go on the outside or the fleecy soft side? Thanks so much.

The right side is the side you like.seriously, officially with sweatshirt fleece, the flat side usually goes on the outside, and the fleecy side against the skin.

The only one I have is printed, and it's got the fleecy side out.

Where in the world do you all live that you have never owned a sweatshirt?

The deep south.

I actually own 2 sweatshirtsish things of fleecy stuff. One has a knit side out and one has the fluffy side out.

Kid has several. All but one has fleecy side out. DH has two: knit side and DS's are knit side out.

So I own 'em, but that doesn't exactly help.

Even in the "deep" South it can get chilly after sundown, or when the Polar Vortex comes a calling!

I would think with the fleecy side out, you'd attract a lot of "stuff", pet fur, grass, lint, etc. to your garment.

I have never seen the fleece side out on sweatshirt fleece, are you sure that the fluffy side out ones are not polar fleece, which is fluffy on both sides?

I am from "up north", so maybe it is different "down south".

As Laura said above, traditionally the flat/knit side is out and the fluffy/loopy/brushed side is toward the body.

However, about a decade ago (with the inside-out seams being fashionable again) I started noticing fluffy-side out sweatshirts being more common, especially for women and girls. I have an embroidered (RTW) Disney sweatshirt that almost looks/feels like terry, but it's just inside-out fleece.

The knit side is less likely to pill - that may also be a consideration.
