I think for the misses side it's generally 32 = 6
34 = 8
36 = 10 and so on up to 44 (18).

And then sizes over 44 are plus.

I just learned that with the magazine, half sizes are petite (so a 36 petite is called 18) and double sizes are tall (so a 36 tall is called 72).

Here are all the sizes, regular, tall, and petite. (This is from a list I posted in the "Tips" section here a few years ago.) I put the US sizes first, with R, T, or P for regular/tall/petite. For example:

10R = 36 Burda
10T = 72 Burda
10P = 18 Burda (the petites can get confusing, since sometimes there's also a regular size with that number -- but you can normally tell by the context).

Equivalents list:

6R=32 6T=64 6P=16

8R=34 8T=68 8P=17

10R=36 10T=72 10P=18

12R=38 12T=76 12P=19

14R=40 14T=80 14P=20

16R=42 16T=84 16P=21

18R=44 18T=88 18P=22

20R=46 20T=92 20P=23

22R=48 22T=96 22P=24

24R=50 24T=100 24P=25

26R=52 26T=104 26P=26

28R=54 28T=108 28P=27

30R=56 30T=112 30P=28

32R=58 32T=116 32P=29

34R=60 34T=120 34P=30

So does that mean if I normally take a 14/16 in regular sizing I can use a petite 21 if I like the pattern? Or should I be using 84 which is the tall size given I'm 173 cm. I'm sorry but I'm still very confused by the Burda sizing. Do all the patterns cater to tall sizing?? How do the petite and tall sizes differ from the regulars? Or should I just look at the each of the sizing charts and find a size that is closest to mine regardless of whether regular, petite or tall? Sorry for the silly questions.

Petite is scaled for 5'3" or less.

So at 173cm tall should I be using their tall sizes?
I know most of the patterns they show just have normal sizes on them would that mean you need to find the particular tall patterns in various issues?

The key to Burda sizing is this--very simple and very few people do it:

burda patterns are seriously and subtly multisized, and in every Burda envelope pattern, there is a measurement/sizing chart. If you follow the Burda measuring procedure absolutely, exactly, as directed, you will wind up with a pattern customized to yourself and no one else.

You will NOT be one size. No one is. But you will have instructions for tracing off the combination of sizes that is yours alone.

Burdas are designed for women who are 5' 6" to 5' 7", and if you are taller or shorter than this, you will still have to adjust for height, but your girth measurements will be taken care of.

As I say, no one does what Burda suggests (to their misfortune), but if you do it right, you will get a fine pattern of your own.

Thanks very much Elona I will go and have a read of their instructions. Opening those pages has always been daunting! I will gird myself with a strong coffee!

You will do fine with the regular sizes. If your waist length/arms etc are longer, just adjest as you would any other pattern.
