Have had great success with this pattern, and wonder if it could be converted into a faux dress skirt bottom, or should I just purchase a pattern for it.

It can be done.
Extend the front under-panel all the way to the side seam. Leave approx. eight to ten or twelve inches (depending on your height & hip size) un-sewn to side seam, so that you have room to step into the dress because you'll need to be able to get into that thing. Be sure to finish the un-sewn part of the underpanel, by either serging or turning under by 1/4" and stitching, just to prevent raveling from wear & wash/drying.
I suggest tracing the underpanel on to some paper and using that to extend and make the faux wrap. That way, if you are not pleased with the results, you still have your original pattern intact.
iPad's auto-correct is my enema.
