I just purchased a variety of colored metallic embroidery thread.
I need advise on users of this thread? What project should I
start using metallic thread?

What are the does & don't using metallic thread?
What's the best type to purchase?

littlecil,
I use Madeira metallic thread and don't have any problem with it. Some people do have problems with metallic thread (irregardless of brand) and a few hints in case you do. You may need to put a longer distance between your thread and the machine. It helps to loosen the "curl" in the thread. Some put it in a cup behind the machine before putting it through all the thread guides on the machine. Another hint is to use some Sewer's Aid (silicone liquid) on the thread spool, but be advised that some machine manufacturers warn against using it as it can deposit the stuff on the tension discs/components and can cause problems. I've used it for years and I've never had any problems with my Janome 11000 and Janome 9000.

Some people have a lot of trouble with metallic threads, but do manage to find a particular brand that they don't have any trouble with. You'll just have to do some trial designs and see what works for you. Good Luck!

Here are a few ideas from Embroidery Library.

Here is another link to Embroidery Library with an overview of needles and fabric. Note Metallic needle.
