It seems that you can't be a member of PR without at least sewing and reviewing the infamous Renfrew Top. :

I have a short neck and I hate any neckline style that will rub against it such as turtle necks, mock turtle necks, high collars, etc. Sometimes those come too close to my chin for me to be comfortable. I don't mind collars that are "normal."

Do you think I would be comfortable wearing a Renfrew? I love the style, but am worried about the neckline.

Renfrew offers three necklines: v-neck, scoop neck and a cowl. If you look closely, the cowl is not something that is tight or close around the neck at all.

I rarely wear a turtleneck or anything that close at the neck.

I was thinking of the cowl neckline.

I think you would be okay, but , not sure, as it could go either way. Unless EleanorSews made the cowl neck and it is a very loose cowl. (?)

I have made the scoop neck Renfrew as a muslin and tonight plan to try adding the cowl. The reason I am testing it is because the pattern piece for the scoop neck and the cowl version are the same. That means there is no way this cowl can be high or snug.

Will report back tomorrow.

Taking my muslin a step further, I added the cowl slapdash fashion. It does not fit close. In fact I have a RTW tunic with a lower cut loose cowl and this is fairly close to that fit...so pleased.

Check out this review of Renfrew.

Note the photo. I couldn't quite get a good selfie of my muslin neckline.

I think I need this

It seems in some of the project pictures I've seen the cowl is ... hmm less abundant... narrower...than on the pattern. Is it my imagination or perhaps the fabric used or really less fabric/drapey/cowley than in the drawing?
