I realize that a basic tank top is probably the easiest thing in the universe to make, but I really like having a pattern with instructions and pieces to guide me before I redesign it and make it my own.

Anyway, what I am looking for and cannot seem to find is a pattern for a basic tank top kind of like the rib knit ones they sell at Old Navy (does not have to be ribbed, but the same style). It would be nice if the pattern had variations like regular and racerback styles, etc. Plus size is a plus. :)

Thank you all for being so helpful!

I think I remember discussion about a switchable back top from the Activewear Sew Along in the Sew Along section. Even if it is not a pattern that will work for you the Activewear thread should yield helpful information.

And the Knit Sew along for Beginner's that is pinned at the top of the Beginner's Forum of the message board will be a huge help.

Scoot down to the Miscellaneous section for the Searching Messages, Bumping Threads thread for an easy way to find help with the knit bindings that you may want to use to finish the neckline and armholes.

Style Arc's Cruise Club Kim is on the cutting table right now. It is a dress but this cutting is for a long tank top - skim fit; not snug, not loose. The back is a plain, slightly dropped rounded neckline. There are no variations included in the pattern.

There's a free pattern online at this blog:

Haven't tried it yet, but it's on my list!

Jamie Christina Mission Maxi! Love that pattern and it has a tank top version. The straps are racerback style, but just redesign the back straps yourself for a version that will cover a traditional bra if you don't have one that is adjustable or a t-back style.

------
Big 4 Pattern size 12, RTW bottom: 6, RTW jacket 8, RTW top (no size fits me well!)
Measurements: 34 HB/36 FB (34C bra)/27.5/36 (and working hard to keep it that way.)
Machines: Sewing: Elna 760, vintage Kenmore Model 33 (1967), Janome Gem Gold 3. Sergers: Babylock Imagine and Babylock Enlighten. Embroidery Only: Janome 300E. Coverstitch: Janome CP1000. Straight Stitch: Janome 1600P.

If you think your sewing is better than everyone else's around here, get out of my way b****. I hate sewing snobs.

What about Kwik Sew 3115? It has a cami and a tank.

The one you're referring to is the XYT Workout Top. It has three variations to the back finish.

Jalie 3245 (racer back tip) or 3246 (dress shortened to a top)
Both might work for you.
