Hello,

I have finished making a top from this fabric:

And am now left with a piece of fabric that is not big enough to make anything nor small enough to justify making totes/accessories/quilt blocks/etc.

I would like to make a top, and was wondering if anybody had ideas about woven tops that had clever piecing? Originally i was thinking of this top http://www.sewlisette.com/patterns/attache because it is broken up into many parts, but after studying it I don't think I'd have enough fabric, especially with the peplum. I'm also happy to use the small scraps of blue and pink you see in the corner as they match perfectly.

Any ideas? Worse to worse, i'll purchase .5-1 yard of plain white fabric and make something with white contrast.

I don't want to make any bottoms b/c i've made some shorts with coordinating fabric, and i'd like a top to go with the shorts.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Cathy

i think I would find a simple t-type top pattern for wovens, and cut it up for color blocking.

If you have a simplish top pattern that you like and is already fitted do what I do. Slice and dice!

You can cut the pattern apart to add a seam anywhere you want. Just remember to add sa's. I would do a solid white at the top and the stripe at the bottom.

Something like this would be cute with a white top and striped bottom.

This one has a seam above the bust.

Both of those would be really easy to adapt to an already fitted pattern. Or just buy the pattern.

My links somehow ended up on the same line. Oops! But you get the idea.

Thanks for the ideas! I really like the style of top of butterick b5644, especially that one shoulder tie part! Except I don't wear one shoulder tops :/

I think this is what I am going to try, dependent on tank pattern and how much of the blue i can squeeze in for the yoke or shoulders.

Oddly enough, i don't have a tank top pattern yet (except for the Colette Sorbetto), so i'm going to flip through my old Burdas.

Thank again!

I am a big fan of Simplicity 2938 for projects that leave long skinny scraps (not sure what shape your scraps are). The front princess seam panels are fairly narrow, and the back is cut with a center back seam.

I like to use patterned fabric as binding and pockets and lining. It can add the greatest popo of color and it's really not too big a peice for a great big tote bag for summer!
