I would like to extend the life of This Dress beyond hot summer wedding. I want to tone down the brighness and add some arm coverage. I am stuck on style and color.

I am horrible at styling. I have been thinking of beige to taupe, something bracelet length then ?????

What about this ?

I'd pick a dark color for a jacket or cardigan to go with this dress. I'm not color shy, so I might pick the dark green.

But you want to tone down the color, so the green may not work for you. What color are the line drawing "squiggles", the flower outlines? Difficult to tell from the photo if they are black or navy or ??.

Having said all that, there's nothing "wrong" with your initial choice of beige to taupe.

I like the simple lines of this Vogue 8648 jacket, or something similar in looks. I wouldn't choose such a heavy tweed for the fabric however.

As always, YMMV,

Interesting thought. The lines are black and I did think of black but thought it might be too much. I agree, I want to tone down the bright dress.

I think that black is a too strong contrast. I would try beige or taupe . Take the dress too the fabricstore. A good tone a little bit deeper than the beige in your dress might work

A plain white would be my first recommendation- which would keep it a summer outfit but tone down the impact of the other colors.

If you want this to be a more "every day" outfit then dark green is my 2nd choice.

In style I'm thinking something a bit fitted, princess or shoulder princess seams. Bracelet length sleeves sounds good, but I'd avoid a short jacket ending near your waist (3" or more below waist would be better).

I'm very hesitant about beige or tan, or black, I don't really think they would suit the dress, and I'm not sure that beige would suit your skin tone.

Thinking sideways, if you want to keep this for dressy occasions, what about a white coat the same length as the dress?

I'd also vote for beige, taupe, or green. I think that a structured cardigan (like a ponte jacket type garment) might also work well for what you're thinking of. I do like the Lekala that you picked out, too.

Think of it this way. What would you put with a white skirt? Once you put a jacket over it, that is what you will have, a white skirt - a bold white skirt, but white is the essential color.

It would be helpful to have the photo enlarged to make a proper paper doll and play with some paper cut outs.

Looks like an 8x10 at Costco is $1.49. You could use interfaced fabric scraps instead of paper to audit style choices on your paper doll self.

I like the vertical peekaboo line created in the center front of the jacket you have chosen - where the center fronts do not quite come together.

My first thought was black if you want to tone it down. If you add another color over the bright dress it would just be amping up the color, even if it's a color in the dress. You could add a skinny black belt at the waist to tie it all together.

To tone down, I'd think to match the bit of the beige I see in the pattern. On the other hand, a 3/4 inch sleeve on a lightweight jacket/cardigan in the lighter colored lime green would look terrific. I liked the Vogue pattern suggested by CM_Sews. Good luck!

I don't think the dresses colors are that bright. If you squint your eyes, I see mostly white. I would pair it with a soft apricot/orange cardigan style.

I like the idea of playing paper doll...to me, emphasizing the color, but in a tone that will not be high contrast with the dress would be nice.

I , on the other hand would go with a medium lime or apricot linen jacket to bring the viewers eye up to my face and off my belly/butt.
