This summer or fall 2014 I will be leaving my local sewing community in Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN for Columbus, Ohio. I will still have online connections, of course, but am looking forward to meeting new people and finding resources back in the state where I grew up. If you sew in Columbus, where do you buy your fabrics? Where do you take classes? Does CCAD have resources for a nonprofessional like me? Do you meet with sewing friends? Thanks!

I no longer live in the area, but it may help to visit a local Hancock Fabric store or a quilt shop to see if there is a community bulletin board where you can find groups or post.

Here are a couple of my favs:
Home Dec Fabric = "Fabric Farms" in Hilliard
Cute little independent fabric store = "Sew to Speak" in Clintonville.

I don't have many sewing friends, unfortunately. I think you & I share a realtor, though….love your blog!

Definitely! I am not settled, either. It could be awhile for me. We don't have possession of the "new" place, yet.

Welcome ladies, to Columbus.
I have lived here about 16 years now. I usually shop Joanns for quick needs and order on line.
There are some nice fabric shops around town. Mostly quilting.
There is a shop in Jackson called Guhl's that sells tables full of quilting fabric, and some specialty fabric, it varies by visit, it reminds me of an old Ben Franklin store..(sort of) lol. Sometimes it can be fun shopping there, the fabrics are like 2.99 a yard. maybe a little more now, they used to be nothing more than 2.00 but everything has gone up. I hope we can get together when everyone is settled in, I definitely need some fitting buddies.

Warning: I am not a fitting genius! Maybe, though, we could hire a fitting genius as a group and all get our pattern-fitting problems solved!
