so this morning I was running a bit late for work. I grabbed a favourite dress, which is lined with cotton. I normally wear a silk slip under it, but its been rather warm in the office lately and I cant see it easily (time to tidy up!) so skip it.

I then decided to wear a pair of silk satin knickers under my nice warm wool tights. May I say this is probably one of the worst fabric combinations I have ever tried in my life?

By mid morning the error of my ways was becoming glaringly apparent. The dress stuck to the wool tights. However, the tights were unfortunately not doing the same to the knickers. They were heading south every time I took a few steps.

Going out to lunch was a nightmare. I actually had to hold on to my tights through the dress to stop a wardrobe malfunction!

The first thing I did on getting home was change. Note to self, silk OVER but not UNDER wool tights. You have been warned!

Warning noted! I have had tights/dress mismatches too...

And I have this one horrible slip that I wore once-- it creeped up to my waist every time I walked so I had a very lumpy midsection.

Not to mention the time I dressed for work in dim lighting. I picked out some brown tights to wear with my green dress. Only later, in the fluorescent lighting of my workplace, did I discover the tights were really bright purple. The lesson of that is to always select your tights in good lighting.

How about when you wear the white with pastel print bra that didn't show through the white blouse until the jacket was taken off when the office temperature went to 86 degrees?

Not being a morning person, I had to put out my work clothes the night before to avoid costume disasters.

Example: the half-slip under the tunic that went over leggings. Whenever I raised my arms, the tunic rose and the slip did not. White slip between black leggings and black and white print tunic: not attractive.

I think my worst one was going to an interview with one black and one dark navy shoe.

Semi sheer top and white bra for fun bowling night with rock and roll and black lights. I thought the white print on the top would look cool under the lights and I guess it did, but nobody really noticed the print because the bra was glowing a million watts.

Professional football team had a white themed party for the same reason (footballers' wives+white undergarments+black lights=you know the result).

One of the players was uncomfortable and fidgetting all night. When someone asked him what the problem was he disclosed the fact that his underwear, a white g-string/thong was very, very uncomfortable. Well it would be if you bought it from the ladies department because you didn't know you could get them in menswear.

(My friend's husband was a trainer for the team, she used to regale us with many such tales)

Since I had to rise at 3:40 and head in to work and my husband didn't get up until 6 A.M., I always tried to keep the bedroom as dark as possible in the mornings. Worked fine until one day as I stood under a lighted shelter at the refinery where I worked and looked down...at two different tennis shoes. I had grabbed 2 white(ish) shoes from the pile in the bottom of the closet and made them work until the rush was over long enough for me to look at my feet in the light. It was so funny that everyone around laughed with me and the sergeant of the guards had to come to my worksite to see for himself and laugh, too.....at least they didn't feel the need to drug test me. LOL

Such funny stories, ladies, thank you! I also had a problem with black and navy, and never saw it until I got to work under the fluorescent lights. After a couple of times of black clothes with navy shoes or tights, I decided to separate the black and navy into different drawers, making sure after doing laundry I put them where I was supposed to. No more embarassments after that. Er...except the days I had mismatched earrings.
