Do many of you have a sewing table for your machine? The kind made out of lucite/plastic that fits around the free arm of your machine. Are they really helpful and worth the money? I've seen them in a couple of sizes...18" X 24" and 24" X 24".

Would you mean the Sew Steady extension tables? Here's a link:

Sew Steady at Nancy's

I have several of them - some I bought through Nancy's and one through Sew Vac Direct, and one came with a machine. YES, they are great and worth the price. One thing - the very large size for sewing machines really is very large, and it actually is wider on my machine than my machines table, which make it necessary to be careful not to hit the edge when around the table. Make a square the right size on some brown paper to really see how large your new table will be! I have two of the smaller ones, and one very large one. The one that came with my Janome is quite large but thankfully not quite as deep so does not stick out - and this would depend on your sewing table as well.

Thanks for the reply and info, Mufffet! I think I will invest in one. I just have to decide what size.

For everyday sewing, the smallest one will do fine (11.5 x15). If you plan on FMQing quilts, then but the largest size.

I purchased a slide in table for my Bernina 1008, and a table came with my Brother SB4138. I sew garments and home dec, no quilting. I think for quilting the table is almost a must. But for what I do, the table comes in really handy. For most garment sewing I don't use it, unless I have large pieces like in a dress. For home dec projects I really like the table because the fabric is usually larger and heavier than garment fabric, and it helps keep the fabric from stretching out. Good to use for larger knit pieces, too, to keep it from stretching. The more accessories for your machine, the better, so go for it!

I have them for three of my machines. The one for my Ellisimo is BL and big. I have a sew steady for my Viking that is large and a sew steady for my serger that is smaller.
I really prefer using the tables as it does just keep things level and prevents drag. I have managed to get mine on sale, which really helps.

I may be in the minority but I do not use mine. I am short and this just adds more surface that is too high for me. On the other hand, I finally bought the Elna table for my Elna 740 in which the machine sits recessed into it. I love it and it was worth every penney. Once again, I think this is because I am height challenged.

I have them for my sewing machines and sergers. I prefer the smaller sizes as I don't quilt. I like that they are clear so I can lay sewing items like scissors and such beneath and yet see them for easy grabbing.
