A long while ago, I fell in love with and bought this stuff that can best be described as denim lace.



When I picked it up, I had just been to a class by Emma Seabrooke and was fascinated by her Suzanne Wrap and Jeannie Over the Top. I wasn't quite sure though and kept putting off making the top. Enter McCall's 6929. I'm thinking I've got a perfect match with View C. This would be worn over a tank or cami or fitted Tee.

What do you guys think?

Funny! A sewing buddy was with me when I discovered that stuff and she didn't see what was so cool about it. I think I carried her reaction in the back of my mind, fearful that I'd put it together and then be looked at weirdly. Maybe being looked at weirdly is easier to take at age 62??? More and more, I'm feeling I'll just do whatever I want and tough titty to anyone who objects!

Do you mind if I ask the size of the squares on your cutting mat? I'm trying to get a sense of scale. Regardless, I think you should go for it. The good stuff shouldn't languish in "the stash" forever...it's meant to be enjoyed!

That is really awesome fabric. I think it'll look great made up in your proposed patterns. I'm curious: how stiff is the denim? If it's really stiff, that might impact your decision to make it up into something which requires some drape.

Regardless: that's really great fabric. :)

Good question. The squares are 1". The denim flowers average 2.5" diameter. Oddly, on one selvedge the flowers stop 3" short of the edge which, of course, makes that portion useless.

You make a good point. I've not washed it yet, but it's pretty drapey now. I'm actually more drawn to the draped front of View A on the pattern. I'm just not sure the fabric would behave for that. In fact, that could be why I never sewed it up as one of the Emma Seabrooke styles. I really appreciate your compliment! So glad others see the coolness!

I think it will be perfect. I am sure you have taken it and just hung it about your neck to see how it does drape. I love it, and probably would never have picked it up, but good for you. I love it, perfect match.

What a yummy and unique burnout! It could be very Texas chic with boots.

I have a couple of burnouts still in the flat fabric stage and I like your pullover top choices the Suzanne and the McCalls. The Jeannie has a bit too much going on in the front for my taste, I think the burnout will get lost if it layers over itself.

For mine I was thinking something more cardigan-ish with an open front, something like this Butterick 5759 or maybe Vogue 1243 View A. Not really interested in the caftan look of the Vogue, but I like the banded front.
