I recently made the V8859 pant in ponte de Roma (Joann's) which fit well but pilled. Decided to try it again in ponte from Fabric.com. Washed, dried in dryer, cut it out and sewed it up. Wore the pants once but the crotch seemed too low in front. I removed some of the fabric at the front waist, reattached the elastic and wore again...the crotch got lower and lower as the day wore on. Love the look of the fabric and adore the pattern from Marcy Tilton. Anyone have any idea what is going on here? I'm stymied.

Knits can grow. Try stitching some stay tape along the crotch seam to stabilize it

Thanks, Kathy, I will try that. Sounds like it might work. Will let everyone know if it helps or not.

Emma Seabrooke advises to include 1/4" clear elastic in the vertical seams in Slinky that are longer than 18" to prevent "growth" during a day of wear. It's the weight of the fabric that makes the seamlines "grow." Perhaps this same concept might work in your Ponte de Roma pants.

Kathy and Judy, you are both right. Knits can grow..at least some do. I applied clear 1/4 in. elastic waist to crotch, front and back. So far, it seems to be working. From now on I will do this as a precaution when I make ponte pants IF I ever make ponte pants again. I seem to be one in a million who does not rave about ponte. Maybe I will find some I like. So far I have had bad luck with my selections. They pill, grow and feel clammy when worn.
