Any suggestions for an easy-to-work with pant pattern of ankle or capri-length with a clean, flat-front; darted waistline; and either back or side-zip closure?

Try Burda 7062 there are a few reviews on the site. It has a side zipper.

Thanks, dmh1. I was actually looking for a pant pattern that had a waist like this one as seen in this clean, flat-front pant example. No extra pieces to cut for a waist; but a waist with continuous fabric from the pant legs with perhaps darts to shape around the waist.

I'm still open to finding more patterns like this though, so please reply if you've seen others.

Textile Studio Soho pants have a wonderful flat elastic waist with darts. They're my go to pants. You could simply hem them at the level you want them.

Sorry can't post link from this computer.
