I noticed that in the past few months, Joannís and Hancock pattern sales are $1 more than what I used to buy at - Simplicity, McCallís, and Butterick at $0.99 (now $1.99 or 5 for $7) and Vogue at $3.99 (now $4.99). I was surprised that the prices didnít lower during Presidentís Day and MLK day sales, so I am thinking these are the new regular sale prices.

So I am looking at alternatives and wondering if ClubBMV is worth it. I never joined before because I have easy access to Joannís and Hancock so looking for patterns at sale prices have not been an issue. I looked up old threads about ClubBMV and most people think it is worth it but I noticed that a lot of folks do not have easy access to these stores (so ClubBMV is the best option). If I buy 10 vogue patterns at $3.99, it would be worth the price since the current membership is $9.99?

What are your thoughts?

Thanks!
RF

Yes. It pays off to join the club. I just ordered 3 patterns and it cost 13 dollars including postage.

BMV club membership will drop $3.99 prices down to...trying to remember exactly...$3.59 (I think). But don't forget to factor in shipping charges. If you bought all 10 patterns at one time, you'd lessen the hit from postage. If you bought your patterns in smaller groups or one at a time, you'd be paying a lot.

I often buy through BMV for the convenience factor and because McVoguerick will have the size I want. That's not necessarily saving money. YMMV

Yes, it is worth it! I am a member now for two years, and I like it. Saves you money in the long run! Go for it.

They have a member sale going on right now...Vogue $3.99 McCalls & Butterick $2.29. I have been a member since 1999. I obviously think it's worth it. I just renewed for another year in fact.
I see people complain about the shipping costs quite often, but the way I see it it's still cheaper than the cost of me driving to JoAnn's, finding parking (not always easy), fussing with the pattern drawers (which are often not in order), and then standing in a ridiculous check-out line if I have managed to find the pattern I went in there for. Ugh.

BMV is worth it for me. Sometimes Vogue is $3.39 for BMV members. The shipping charge used to bother me, but:

I don't live close to JoAnn or Hancocks
I can shop at leisure adding to my wish list until they run a sale
Always has my size
I don't spend the time & auto expense driving to the stores
I don't waste money on impulse buying (this is a BIGGIE lol)
I don't have to stand in a checkout line
Vogue Mag can be purchased at a discount with no shipping charge

My $0.02. HTH!

I'm also a member, and I love it. They run sales on Kwik Sew patterns (which never go on sale up here). I found that shipping works out to a $1 or less per pattern, which still makes them cheap when they're on sale. And members still get 20% off the sale price for general public sales.

The only problem I have is shipping time is a little slow. Not sure if it's like this just in Canada, or in the US as well.

I think it depends on your circumstances. I for one, could not justify the cost of Club BMV. I live within 5 miles of a Joann's, Hancock's and a Hobby Lobby. I can get to them at anytime of the day, so don't have to worry about standing in long lines. I could buy quite a few patterns for $9.99+tax.(when the sales hit).

Even with the increase in pattern "sale" prices, I can still find $.99 patterns on occasion and I have never had a problem spending $1.99 for a pattern. Even at 5 for $7.00 that only comes to $1.40 a piece. I don't use Vogue patterns very often and limit myself to only a few classic Kwik Sew patterns.

So in my situation I don't have a need for the membership. I can see how some would.

I have also been a member since it launched and find it totally worth it. They always have your pattern in stock, and in your size. The sales are very good. And my favorite feature is that you can see your shopping history, which means you have a record of every pattern you have purchased, and in what size! No risk of impulse fabric shopping when I am hitting a pattern sale. Being able to shop for patterns from home in my pj's... so many perks!

It depends on why, what, how many and how often you purchase patterns.
If you think you will get your moneys worth, or are curious, give it a try.
