Since the Bernina Love thread is so huge, lots of helpful tips and resources are lost in its many pages. This thread is for tips, resources, links, etc. Anything helpful to the Bernina owner.

You certainly can comment on a post but please remember it is meant to be an informative thread so post accordingly. It is not open for debates or unkind posts. Please post in the Bernina Love thread (or start another thread) if you want to get chatty

I'll start by adding things I've compiled over the last 5 years: Bernina Educational Resources

This is incredible. THANK YOU!!!! Now we can share tips, tricks and info without it getting lost in discussions.
I by "chance' happened on this YouTube video which was so elementary!!! I became fascinated how she slowly went through everything and when she got to the needle threader at 7 minutes I was glued. I have always just done it and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't...after watching her I have never missed once!!!!

I will try to do battle with flikr...
applique

I can't get this to come up right...but it's there for you to see.
She is called Scarlet O'Hare. She is just cut outs which I then used the blanket stitch to sew on to my background fabric with stabilizer underneath. (use some kind of steam a seam to glue on)
Final techniques which I liked....
I used the 20 foot. I tried the #23 which is better for satin stitching and tried the #39. The #39 ended up with a glare and I could not see as well with it. The #20 was perfect.
Motor at half speed
Needle stop down
#1329 stitch at 2 SL and 2 SW (#329 on Diana's stitch conversion chart...for other Berninas see her chart in her blog for the blanket stitch. It is #26 on my 1130 and #10 on my 1630)
Needle position far right
to secure stitches I just dropped the feed dogs for a few stitches.
when pivoting I had the needle at the outside of the design...pivot (needle in the down position) a bit, stitch a few and then pivot again
sometimes the pattern repeat feature was handy when pivoting every few stitches...the knee lift is almost essential for this!
sew with the right inner edge of the foot against the outer edge of the shape. I goofed on the shoes as I was just starting to figure it out but after looking at it ...it looked like loose laces so I left it. Once I got the technique figured out I was able to follow the design pretty closely.

(Besides the pattern repeat feature and the knee lift mentioned above.the mirror image was wonderful as well. I tried the blanket stitch in the directional sewing menu but did not need it after all for this project...PLUS in the directional sewing mode it will revert to the pre-set stitch length and width when going in another direction! I needed all my stitches to be 2 SL and 2 SW. If you want to use this feature watch it...I do not know if that can be changed...I'll have to futz with this later)

Threaddy, when watching the video that you linked on 4/9 at 6:03 pm, I have an added step when I have not been regularly threading the 830 bobbin for embroidery.

When she (on the video) goes back down the 'ski jump', I cup the bottom curve of the 'ski jump' with my left index and middle fingers.

I have big hands and it is sometimes awkward for me to bring the thread down the 'ski jump' with my right hand and hold the thread snug against the 'ski jump'. Making the cup under the 'ski jump' with my fingers forces the thread to stay snugged up on the down hill ride. I remove my fingers (finger cup) after the downhill ride down the 'ski jump'.
