I love this dress that the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, recently wore to an engagement. Does anyone have a pattern suggestion of some that I could frankenpattern together to get this look? Thanks.

I don't know of anything off the top of my head, but I'd keep my eye on StyleArc and Lekala. They often use Kate Middleton's style as inspiration, and that dress is right up the alley of both pattern companies.

Here's Butterick pattern 5917 that's similar; you could at least start with this:

Thank you. I actually have that pattern already. I bought it to make a knockoff of this Nanette Lepore Dress. That will work.

That Butterick dress is really cute and I think it would look better on me than the Kate version.

If I were to recreate the Kate dress, I'd use this pattern as a tool but not the starting point. There's a a couple of major design changes that I don't like to make - dropping the waist and switching from underbust darts to princess seams. I don't enjoy doing that sort of alteration.

I'd start with a princess sheath dress, then use the techniques from the Butterick pattern to recreate the jacket effect. But, that's just me :)

Beautiful dress, and the Butterick pattern is pretty doggone close! Go for it.

Have you seen this one from Butterick? It's
B5849. It has the notched collar and is fitted. The main difference is the shirring there... you can easily add that panel over the bust and make the sleeve length match the Kate dress.
