Do I need a bigger bust size?

I am making Simplicity 2151, which is an amazing Fit princess seamed fitted blouse. I am doing view C.
I measured my high bust 38.5 and full bust 40, difference 1.5 " so decided to go with their recommendation of a C cup (2 - 3" difference - C Cup). As I take a 36D or 38C bra, that seemed okay. I chose bust size 40, size 18. I had to lower bust fullness quite significantly, by 2.7" which I did on both front and side front, following Palmer Pletsch instructions. I had to lengthen pattern to lower waist first as the alterations overlapped. My final pattern looked bizarre. Had I followed the curve of the bust, I would have cut off a lot of fabric (line that is drawn)Simplicity 2151

I sewed up the princess seams, without much difficulty, then back darts and shoulders and side seams, using the 1" seam allowance given. The blouse was far too tight. I got my husband to repin and you will see that while back was a reasonable size, the front was way too small and would need an extra 1/2" at each side, I estimate.

This shows that the back seam allowance is intact but the front is inadequate.
Does this mean that I should have gone with a D cup front? Is it okay just to add to the sides? I think the shoulders and upper chest area are fine and I don't think I need a bigger size. But I most definitely need more space from armhole down to hip, at front, to keep side seams perpendicular. I would welcome any advice. Thank you

1" seam allowance? Maybe go with a 5/8" seam allowance? That would give you an additional 1.5" to 2.25" depending which seams you let out.
