After taking Natalie Chanin's Craftsy class, I would really like to try making a an embellished knit project, but I'm having trouble sourcing the mid-weight all cotton jersey that is recommended. The fabric available on her site is very expensive. The only appropriate fabrics I've found online are in black, white and tan.

Does anyone know of an alternate source for 100% cotton jersey...especially in muted tones?

I have found good quality, nicely priced cotton knits at Girl Charlee.

If you dye your own fabrics, Dharma Trading has cotton jersey. I've used it with the Alabama Chanin techniques and it works beautifully.

I also started dyeing with Dharma dies and bought some of their fabrics. You can buy a small kit to get started. I took Angela's class here on PatternReview and its been a lot of fun.

Just in case you are considering that route...

Dyeing my own fabric never even occurred to me. Great idea! I covet the gorgeous mellow colors of Alabama Chanin jersey, but the cost is really prohibitive. Thank you for the idea, OBX and Knitsgetsmail!

I just today got some 100% cotton t shirts on sale at K-Mart for just this purpose. I wanted to actually touch the fabric in person. I'll let y'all know how it works out. :)
