I hate to sound harsh or critical but in the Joann Fabric sale flyers, am I the only one that thinks the fabric they choose for the models the majority of the time is hideous and darn right ugly?

Ha! But that's what Joann's sells.

Yes, yes they are. And the garments have a very handmade with love look.

I don't buy much fabric at Jo-Anns, and those photos make me want to buy even less.

And this is why I don't buy fabric there.

I think so too, but it's not because "that is just what Joann's sells" really just fabric wise, at all either. More just how they choose to represent themselves right there. I buy most of my fabrics from my local Hancocks and Joann's, and my finished garments never look like those featured ones, at all!

I don't emulate Joann's fabric to pattern kind of match up choices, or style choices, though most times at all. Like about never! Because as the sewer, you get to choose instead. So I do think you really just got to look past that kind of stuff!

My finished garments look like they come from net a porter, Nordstroms and Bloomingdale's instead actually. And all those places have some pretty hideous and ugly stuff too though sometimes! I just choose not to sew up and make and wear anything I consider hideous on me instead. So, a Joann's flyer is for sure not Women's Wear Daily, Vouge Magazine or Harper's Bazaar or any of those places at all, and should not ever and never be confused with them!

But if you buy fabric from them, more selectively and choose a sewing pattern to go with it wisely, and just ignore their promoted choices, your clothes that you are wearing can still rival or meet most anything found from within all those fashion magazines too.

You put that well. Sometimes it's just not possible to get fabric elsewhere, but with care good choices are available.

I didn't say it was "just" what they sell. I said it was what they sell. They are representing themselves in their ads with the fabric they sell. Their choices may or may not be something others appreciate.

Often a model garment is a tie in with the pattern company, and the pattern company picks the fabric.

I agree with this ALL! Seriously, if you look at their circulars you would be afraid to sew any of the patterns in any of the fabric shown. But I assume, as do some here, that this is how J's likes to promote themselves. Their "personality" so to speak. However, for the J's in my area, the fabric is a good buy. And if you like to sew and have sewn for a bit, you can make something beautiful from the patterns and fabric J's sells.

You all are lucky if you can find decent fabric at your JA. I once looked for some wool (in the middle of winter) and there was none to be found. If I had been looking for fleece, however, I could have had my pick of hundreds.
