I am a fitting novice. I usually sew with knits and the bulk of my alterations are made at the side seams. But I have grand plans for V8766 & am determined to get this figured out.I'm mostly focusing on the bodice right now.

Here are my best guesses, but if you could tell me what YOU see, I'd be very grateful.

The waist bust darts need shortened.
I know I have sloping shoulders, but when I basted that alteration (not pictured) I had some major gaping at the back neckline. Perhaps I have an rounded upper back? Or forward shoulders?

I also think that the bodice may be too long & that I need to narrow the back. I definitely need more room in the skirt portion. And I have a full tummy so I'll likely remove the bulk of the front skirt darts.

I think you are generally on the right track.

I'd start by lowering the point of the front vertical bust darts. And releasing a little of the base of them also. Not much. Just a little. And do what you've planned to the front skirt darts. You'll probably want them to line up with the bodice darts....

Then I'd open the back waist seam and the back waist darts both in the bodice and the skirt and let the bodice slide down to the position that looks smoothest. (You'll have to release the bottom of the zipper from the waist down too.)

Is the side seam (under your arm) on the bodice perpendicular to the floor? Take a look at the skirt side seam and you'll see where you need extra space; this may be partly fixed when you fix the back (above). You MAY need to add extra length to the upper back of the skirt in addition to some extra space in the skirt back.

Don't forget to give yourself room to move and breath when you're done! (I forgot to look; does this pattern have sleeves?)

Open the side seams and pull up the front at the waist of the skirt and see if this lets the fold out on the upper side as well as for the full buttock area.

The skirt of the dress may still need a fuller cut back and then four darts at the waist.

Unless you are at military attention, everyone's waist pitches down at the front (at least female). This is more noticeable with pants, which is why so many have to reduce the amount of fabric in the upper front area. For men is usually their table muscles (belly) pushing down their belt.

Don't forget to test the fit when you sit, bend or stretch and add ease where it is necessary.

If the pattern won't have sleeves cut off the seam allowances around the armscye to get a better idea of the fit.

It looks like you need a bit more space for the back booty. A bit of length needs to be taken out of the back as well. I like Goodworks suggestions for you.

All good points, ladies. Thank you! I went ahead & purchased the Craftsy course for fitting that features this specific pattern and I think it will be worth the time invested.
