For those of you that are thinking of this magazine, I got an email in my inbox from Burdastyle about a free trial issue.

You can bill later and cancel and the magazine is yours to keep.

NAYY, I just got this in and thought to give a heads up it's a promotion they're doing to get new subscribers and someone may want it.

Makes me wonder how well it really is doing, though. I know this isn't uncommon to do, but seems to be a little early for that doesn't it?

People (like me) are going BALLISTIC on them because they debuted the magazine with 20 pattern sheet patterns and 20 download patterns. There was a code to download the patterns - for free. This is how the magazine was marketed.

The spring issue comes out and there are 20 patterns in the magazine and 23 available for download - at the regular price of $5.99 per pattern!

So I am sure lots of people (like me) have dropped their subscription because why pay -per magazine- the same price for 20 rehashed patterns when you can get the regular international edition...

I get the international version, so I never looked at it. Just figured I'd toss it out there in case people wanted to try it.

I've read what you said before, but I am confused about what they did. One size in the mag and pay for the rest?

No. When they did the release about it, they advertised the magazine as 40 patterns per issue --- 20 patterns on the sheets to trace and then 20 patterns available as pdf downloads (for free) via the BurdaStyle website. There was a code to download the patterns.

BUT then when they released the spring issue, they have the 20 patterns in the magazine and the cover says there are 23 patterns "available" as downloads...but when you go to the URL they provide, you have to pay (like normal) for the "additional" patterns.

So they released it as 40 patterns per issue but really now you are only going to get 20.

And when questioned, they ignored and then back peddled. It is extremely frustrating.

I got the email also. You get the one free issue (20 patterns) and then you get 50% off the subscription price. They do not say anywhere what that price is and when I tried to click the highlited "Save 50%" nothing happened.

No mention was made of free downloads in the free issue.

There aren't any free downloads...that's the unfortunate part.

Winter edition - free downloads
Spring edition - paid downloads

Just echoing what Mrscharisma said. If you don't have any Burda back issues, and you want to get some on the cheap, take up the 50% offer. I won't be dealing with them any longer.

Oh hahaha...so they are pushing it now with a special offer. They probably had half their subscribers cancel because of their flip-flopping. Well, this will be interesting to see what happens.
