I am so frustrated. I have attempted to rethread my brother serger numerous times and each time the lower looper thread keeps breaking. I am having problems when I have to put the thread thru the pull out slot and then push the slot back in. I have attempted to look on youtube for instructions, but I cannot get a good view of the pull out notch to see which groove the thread is supposed to pass thru. Does anyone have any tips on threading the serger lower looper?
I have to get it back up and working to finish a costume project.
Thanks
Mary

I don't know if you've tried this video or not but the Brother instructional video shows this at about the 12 minute mark. She just slides the thread into the notch behind the tab. She doesn't seem to fuss with positioning it perfectly.

I just put the thread through the hole in the looper, then push in the bar while placing the thread to the left of the square thingy on the bar using a forceps. There really isn't anywhere to put the thread other than just have it catch on the square thing while pushing in the bar. I would start over and rethread. Anytime I have had thread breakage, it was due to thread either being caught somewhere or improper threading. Good luck.

I had this serger and was confused about this too. The thread just lays there and you push the piece back in-it doesn't go through anything in that part of the looper. There is a youtube video that shows this.

I just went back and rethreaded the machine after changing the needles and that seemed to help.
So far so good.
Thanks for all the help!

I literally just unpacked my 1034D and had to do this threading for the first time, and I noticed the lower looper threading was definitely tricky, lol.

The first time it came out of the notch thingy, but when I tried it again, I kind of held the back of the thread tail while pushing the notch back into its place, and that seemed to help.

Anyhow, once I did it all correctly the machine stitched well and I found some success in serging the edges of my sample ity piece. My hope is to serge up the dress I am making next week, outside of the bits that have to be sewn on the sewing machine.

I am glad I found all this support here at Pattern Review...I bet with all the knowledge out there, I should have no problem finding answers to my serger questions here!
