So, I feel like I'm pretty well versed in the way of knits, but am always interested in learning more, so I signed up for a sneak preview of the Colette book.

In the sneak peek email they offered a "buy the new knit patterns and get half off of the book!" deal which was an alluring idea.

Except that there are no photos or detailed descriptions of the dress and skirt; they're saving them for release day, saying "We know you'll love them!"

Umm, they thought I'd love Laurel, too. Not so much. Totally not going to shell out $50 for sight unseen patterns. What if they're like something I already own? Maybe the deal will still be available at release time.

I just feel like it's silly not to at least post some simple line drawings if they didn't want to post their photo shoot pics.

OK, rant over.

I just got the email too and thought the exact same thing. They must have thought it would be a good marketing strategy.

I ordered the bundle, but I have very limited experience with knits and only 2 patterns for knits, so I'm hoping the book and patterns will inspire me to learn how to deal with them and not fear them!
If I were a confident knit sewist with many patterns in my collection, I'd probably feel the same as you, but I've been very pleased with the detailed instructions in her patterns and previous book. They give me just the right amount of hand holding to feel inspired to learn something new, so this didn't seem like too much of a risk. I'm imagining a DVF Wrap dress, and a skirt is a skirt... I don't wear them often, but I'm willing to make one or 2 for practice.

No, I wouldn't buy patterns with no information either! I didn't get the sneak peek - does the book look good?

I think if you don't have many knit patterns, the bundle with the mystery patterns may be worth it. Does anyone know if the knit book will have patterns in it like the Colette Sewing book did?

Really? Wow! That's a lot of chutzpah to try and sell something, ANYTHING, sight unseen. And it's $50?

Geez, I don't care how many patterns it is. What if you like none of them? Can you return it and get your money back? They should show you something before you pre-order!

That is a crazy insulting marketing strategy if indeed that's what it is!

The sneak peek chapter was the first chapter, which was an education in different kinds of knits and how they differ from wovens. It looks like a really pretty book, and has some good information in it, especially if you're new to knits or have a fear of them (as I used to!). I just skimmed it, though.

As far as I've understood, the book doesn't come with any patterns and the idea is you'll supplement the book by purchasing their new patterns separately. I would definitely be much more interested in it if it actually included the patterns.

Well I sure wouldn't buy any pattern sight unseen! But there are many devoted Colette fans out there who buy everything Sarai puts out, so I suppose the ad is aimed at them.
