Angry Chicken 5 minute skirt tutorial

I have the fabric and elastic ready and am hoping to get to this today. I'm a little scared though!! Will just sewing the FOE to the top of the raw edge of the skirt really be enough (especially with my big hips?)

I have big hips, too. I hope there are reviews soon!

Review

I searched this because of another thread not too long ago. I knew there were some reviews, actually I though there was at least 1 more, but can't find it now.

Wow thanks for that!

Do you mind sharing how you searched the reviews? I'd like to try looking for reviews on other tutorials too!

While I haven't made this particular skirt, I do use FOE at the waist a lot and I just sew it over the raw edge -- skirts, tights, leggings.

I have a 15" difference between my waist and hips and a significant "quick change" between my waist and high hip. I find that 3/8" elastic or the FOE is very comfortable and stays in place at my waist.

I just finished making some Jalie footed tights and used the FOE at the waist -- less bulk at the waist and very comfortable to wear (still have to review them).

Well, first I search for "angry chicken" (but that didn't work because the reviewer calls her "angry bird" LOL - important to enter correct information in reviews!). Just in the search box at the top left.

When that didn't work, I went to the advanced search, and chose the following:

Pattern Company: No Pattern Used
Type: Skirts
And I checked the box for Free patterns

That also didn't work, lol, so I unchecked the box and got 80-some reviews (there are 90 now). I scanned the first page, and saw this one (it's number 8 right now). It says 2 reviews, but they seem to be identical (same date even).

If you search in the top left box for "5 minute skirt" you will get the same 2 (identical) reviews. So that shows I should have searched both names, lol. It's possible that there are others in there that just call it "skirt" but I didn't really want to look though all of them.

In general I will search patterns by their number only, and if I get more than 1 company can choose - but that doesn't happen often.

Not all tutorials have reviews. For example, I'd love to see one of this skirt (which I plan to make some day), but I haven't found one. When I get around to making one, I will certainly add my review.

FOE=Fold Over elastic.
Will it be enough?
It depends.
My son was a toddler when he pulled himself up by my elastic-waisted skirt...in church. I was sooooo glad I had put a full slip on that day!

I love summer skirts. I see fold over elastic and I guess it is time to try it.

I wore my Jalie tights with the FOE waist to dance class and danced for 2 hours -- they stayed put which is what I was trying to test. Now I know I definitely need to take some length out of the leg but that the crotch and waist are perfect.

With the difference between my waist and hips I don't think I'd ever have to worry about an elastic waisted skirt being pulled down.
