So I am going to try to turn a woollen blanket into a duffle coat.

The patterns I've been able to find are:

Burdastyle 09/2011 and 11/2011

McCalls 6657

Albion by Colette

McCalls 5649

I quite like Burdastyle 09/2011 but am worried about the weird sleeves. The one review doesn't mention an issue with movement, and I will definitely make a muslin first.

Any other pattern suggestions that I should consider? I'm a beginner so might be punching above my weight, but what the hell :)

You seem to have a reasonable selection of patterns already. Are there any features you're looking for that those patterns don't have? Otherwise I would just work with one of those. I think there are other Burda patterns, and I'm sure there are lots of vintage patterns too, but why bother if you've already got what you need?

I suppose so.. I just want to be fully informed before making my choice

I've not made a coat before so the prospects scare me a little.

Macphee workshop by Linda macphee Macphee patterns

She specializes in duffle coats and her customer serving has been absolutely fantastic when I have dealt with them.

I just bought Favorite Things VO42, The Duffle Coat. Picture looks great. I haven't cracked the plastic yet.

If it were me it would just be "more choices = more difficulty choosing". I think if I were you I would go for the Colette Albion as it's likely to have the best instructions. Also there's a sewalong and even an extra in-depth instruction book if you should need it. (I'm not affiliated with Colette nor have I seen the pattern or the instructions.)

I also really like that first burda pattern you chose (09/2011). It looks to me like the sleeves are either 3/4 or 7/8 length so I'd recommend making a muslin first before diving in to check the length.

I would also say the Colette Albion. All sorts of backup and resources with it. I have it and will start sewing it soon ish. I hope. Any way, good luck!

Yes, I've just purchased Albion- the sewalong looks really helpful and there are so many successful makes out there in blog land I feel much more empowered to make it :)

Thanks everyone for humouring me :)
