While summers tops are so nice to wear, but it seems like I never have any in my closet. They just aren't as much fun to sew as all the pretty colors and prints. But for the next few weeks, I'm going to force myself to sew a few. The only rule is they must be (mostly) white - they can be any style. I have a few ideas in my pinterest folder. Anyone want to sew along with me?

Sounds like fun! I love white tops but I never buy them because I tend to have an 'accident' every time I wear one.

I have a piece of white broadcloth I bought to try a new pattern and a (mostly)white knit with little black polka dots planned for another.

Looks like I'm in. Will post update & review as I finish one.

Thanks for coming up with this idea. I love white tops for summer and year round- more cream in winter. I have a ton that I've bought and wear almost daily. Somehow I keep being attracted to "other fabric" ignoring that most days, here in San Francisco, I'm wearing a white top, plus a top layer and a scarf. In fact, I just rewashed a pile of white fabrics and am thinking. I've got dotted swiss, sheer windowpane plaid, a sheer tonal white stripe and lace of all kinds. Unadorned, a white top can be a fashion basic, but they also take to tone-on-tone embellishment from sedate to crazy combos.

What to do? I'm knee deep in a batch of projects, but this is so appealing. I'll keep sewing my queue and check back. Just can't make a decision. :)

What do you think you're gonna make? Will it be 1 or a batch?

I really need a white woven cotton blouse. I love wearing it over a tank when we go out to lunch to dress things up a bit.
Finding fabric may take some time. I am sure I don't have it in my stash- except for some eyelet. I will need to source a suitable white cotton- where to begin?

I also want to sew up that cute Simplicity 1950's vintage bra-halter top. But I am over 60 and have lost my girlish figure so that last thing I want to do is show my now rounded tummy! But perhaps I can make a long, white gauzy overblouse and pair it with shorts. At least for around the house.

Yep, a white blouse is something I really need. This will be a fun sew along- great idea!

Yeah, some friends to play with!

My "plan" is to make 3 or 4 (mostly) white or cream colored summer tops. I picked up a piece of white on white print cotton woven yesterday. And I'm sure have other whites in my stash that I can use. I have a piece of white with tiny black polka dots I might use. I haven't picked out any patterns yet.

Oh can I play too. I want to make vogue 8977 a sleeveless version in white with mother of pearl buttons. I just bought the buttons yesterday. I have a woven piece in my stash. I also was thinking a couple of white shirts were needed for this summer.

I have to check my fabric and patterns stash first, but would love to play along!

Beverly, I have an entire shelf of white in my fabric closet so I am the obvious candidate for this sew along. That and the fact that I LOVE white tops and make several every year because I need to retire the spotted ones (craft keeper must be a cousin). I have sewn 2 white tops in the past few weeks, outside temperatures notwithstanding. One is a StyleArc and the other a McCalls and there are probably more in my future.
