I went to the Bernina website and under "Support" found out that there is an upgrade for the 700 series machines for the firmware. I read the release notes shown there, but they were short on information. Would like to know if anyone has taken their Bernina 710, 750 or 780 in for the firmware upgrade which rolls all service packs into this upgrade (including service pack 6). If you have, what was the result for you? Better stitching? Any bad changes resulting from the upgrade? I am taking my 780 in on Monday (since the one year warranty is up on Tuesday) and would like to know what to expect. When I called my dealer the lady I spoke with had no clue - she kept referring to the embroidery upgrade from ver 6 to ver 7! Since this dealer also sells Janome and Brother, she may be more attuned to one of those brands. Thank you for any experience or advice you can give. I get a bit anxious about taking my machine in which so far has behaved pretty well.

Firmware updates fine tune tensions, improve cutter efficiency, program out known flaws and increase platform stability. I recommend that you do take advantage of this. I have installed the latest firmware into quite a few machines and have to date, found no negatives. Remember, it can always be reversed. I am concerned that the person that you talked to didn't know anything about it, but maybe the tech does.

Thank you for your reply. I did take it in and it will be 2-3 weeks before it ts ready. There are two techs, but one is out with health issues for a while. I really love this machine- it is like driving a new car! I also have a 630 and a 350, so the time delay is okay. I enjoy learning as much as I can about my machines.

Meant to also say that it seems that the sales ladies know a little about all machines, but specialize in one of the three brands the sell. Given the intricacies of computerized machines these days I can understand.

I updated Kee myself, and there's not been any problems. Rumor has it this update has made the turtle/bunny rabbit disappear (embroidery mode), but further rumor has it that Bernina will be correcting that in the next update.

Dunno about the veracity of these rumors as I've not yet taken Kee's embroidery module out of the box.

The one thing that wasn't corrected was the less than stellar stitch quality & increasingly high auto tension settings at needle-right positions.
