After lusting after this machine for years, I bought one from a dealer on Ebay.

I know there are PR people out there who won't give up their 930 for love or money, and I'm hoping to get a LOVE/trouble shooting thread started.

I read a review that addressed the need to be careful about who services the machine…scarce parts…gears and boards needing to be replaced. Now I'm more than a little nervous that I may have made a bad decision.

Help!

Congratulations on your Bernina 930 sewing machine !

It’s one of the wonderful sewing machines on my wish list.I’m still looking to find a reasonable priced Bernina 930 sewing machine in my neck of the woods.People around here don't sell it,it seems to be one of the sewing machines everyone thinks - it's a keeper.

The only problem I heard of is the basting stitch.People are supposed to use the basting stitch once a month,or it will freeze up the machine,I read.It would help to write a "use the basting stitch" reminder in your calendar to do it regularly.

If you clean your Bernina after every sewing project and oil where indicated in the manual with a drop of sewing machine oil you shouldn't have any problems for years to come.I use a drop of Tri-Flow with Teflon, instead of sewing machine oil.It cleans and lubricates at the same time.

I would only let a knowledgeable sewing machine technician touch my sewing machines,no matter which brand.

Claire,
Don't overthink it. You most likely got a fabulous machine....everyone seems to love this model.
It's called 'buyer's remorse'.
Everything will be fine.

If you have a good Bernina dealer in your area, or within a couple hours' drive, you'll be okay with service. I would never let a "general practitioner" work on any of my Berninas.

I've had my 930 for 30 years and, while I also have newer computerized Berninas now, the 930 is still my favorite. It is so smooth and just hums along in a way the others just don't. The stitch is also the best. Like others have said, keep it clean and oiled (like you would any machine) and occasionally have it checked by a Bernina tech. If the basting stitch ever freezes up on you, it's easy to fix. You bought one of Bernina's best, so enjoy your new machine!

Search these boards (look at the top left of this page) and fill in Bernina 930, then click the drop-down menu for Boards. You will find lots of advice and discussions.
