I see a 125S advertised locally. I think this is at travel size machine?
Anyone know about this model?
How does it compare to a 145?
Thanks

Sweet machine!

I tried mine out on a variety of fabrics including knits and buttonholes on knits (because my then 1130 just had too heavy presser foot pressure for them so sewed them on my Pfaff), it stitched everything beautifully. I upgraded to the 145S shortly after I can't remember the differences now, more stitches certainly, maybe mirror imaging? Depending on what you want it for the 125S may be sufficient.

But -- the "S -- can be important. These were originally released with just the # and the metal hook had been plasticized! I had a 145 briefly (before 125S) which I wasn't nearly as impressed with as my older Bernina, but when I heard about the S models - wherein they'd replaced the hook with original metal hook (and they did replace them under warranty on the non S versions if people had trouble with them) - I went to try one at the Bernina booth at a local expo. An acquaintance was working for the dealer and had to help a customer and told me to go ahead and play but suddenly turned around and pointed to it and yelled METAL HOOK! She was right, definitely made a difference! So if I were getting another of these great little activas I'd definitely want the S version or affirmation the hook had been switched.

My 125s, bought on Craigslist six years ago, is the newest Bernina and the only computerized machine I own. It is a 3/4 size machine and is designed for portability.

It has fewer stitches than the 145 and the freehand system is optional -- I had it added to mine. The 125s has a single buttonhole that's not automatic but very easy to use. I don't generally use that buttonhole -- I really like the buttonholer attachment that straps on my mother's straight-stitch Singer 15-91.

Using the great http://sewing.patternreview.com/SewingDiscussions/topic/84363 that PR's SewBusy63 compiled, I learned all sorts of tricks for using my Activa, including the best way to use the needle threader. I watched the Bernina 530 videos demonstrating the features that my machine also has.

As a garment sewer, I still haven't outgrown my Activa 125s. It's the machine I turn to for precision work with its 9 different needle positions and needle up/down feature. I don't have the special heel-tap foot pedal but I've learned how to easily make it take one stitch at a time with the standard pedal. I love using this machine with the Bernina walking foot.

Buy the slide-on table for it -- well worth the $35 or so.

It has a handful of embroidery stitches that I never use.

HTH.

P.S. Here is a link for the manual for the 125 and here is a manual for the 145.

Reading through these might help you elucidate the differences between the models.
