Hi, I'm a guy that sews and I make Medieval garb for the SCA (Ren-Fair). I use an older machine that sews from lace to leather with a few adjustments. The wife refers to it as the "Ugly Monster". And it is a monster, this thing weighs a ton, and too heavy to lug around, so hiding it in a carrying box is out. I was thinking of buying a large table set up with all the bells and whistles. The wife says she'd like to see it in an antique cabinet, so we compromise. I'm looking for a conventional hide away, lift top sewing cabinet like the 40's/50's/60's Singer, Kenmore models. But I need to know if the monster will fit in those cabinets.
My machine is:
Morse Fotomatic IV

Mount holes are:
9 5/8" apart

The machine is:
16 1/2" wide X 7" deep

The height is:
9" (from the top of the base up)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome! I love to see guys participate here and I hope you get the help you need.

I don't have a cabinet to measure but I see them all the time on Craig's List. I hope you find a great one and that your wife loves it!

Don't know if they have old cabinets, but they do have new ones - try SewVac Direct in Bryan, TX. Super nice and helpful and may be able to assist you in getting something that would work for you. Good luck!

We also have the old cabinets of all types regularly on CL. Currently there is one Morse Dial-A-Matic mounted in a cabinet on the Sarasota CL so yours should be do-able.

Hope you can check out a few cabinets in person and see if they meet your measurements. Or you could try posting a CL wanted ad and see if anyone comes forward.
Even if a few modifications are needed it sounds like it will be a good solution.

Not sure of the dimensions but I have a Singer 503A in a Singer Cabinet 42 which it was not made for. I did so some modifications but could make it fit. There are quite a few of those out there and they are very art deco looking. I would look at one of those if you can find it.

WHOOO HOOO...Triple luck struck.

While my wife and daughter were out at yard sales they came across an old sewing machine in a classic 50's style cabinet. They got it home, and I gave it a severe cleaning, polishing, and oiling. That's when we discovered she bought a Singer 99K in mint condition, with all the gold filigree intact...$75.

Triple luck:

The wife has a cabinet that fits her decor in the sewing room.
I get to buy the cabinet with all the bells and whistles for the Monster.
And my daughter wants to learn to sew on the Singer 99K

My Mom had this very same cabinet back in the late 50s except hers was a darker (I think walnut probably) wood. It was really nice...the cabinet and the machine were a set; she got it new for her birthday.
