A friends mom is selling it and I think it would make a great backup machine to my 230 or as a basic machine for my daughter (8 yrs) It hasn't been used but it is I great condition. She is looking for the extra feet but let's assume no extras. Also I am not trying to get the best deal possible as it is a family friend but a fair price for both of us.

Are there any known issues with this machine?

Do you mean the Bernina record 830?
Look on ebay for 830's for sale.
I think blue book is quite low -$100-150.
The 880 Bernina is thousands and thousands.....

If you check on eBay check completed listings for it. I sold one a couple years ago on Craig's List and asked $300. I had many interested people. The machine is old and prices can be all over the place. Feet will make a huge difference in value of the machine. I think I would see what she thinks it is worth or asks for the machine. She might give you a great price on it but I would want to see what she wants for it first. If too little then offer her a little more if it makes you feel better. Many times one just wants their machines to go to a good home where it will get love and use without really worrying about the money.
I'm sure you're talking about the 830 Record or 830 Electronic. There is a new expensive Bernina 830 too.

in my experience, if you offer more than the asking price, the seller begins to think that the item is worth way more than it is. no good deed goes unpunished. if they don't know what to ask, and they leave it to you to come up with a price.....download some comps of very similar(same condition, accessories, etc.) sold machines off of ebay. test the machine to see that everything works. check the decorative stitches. the feed dogs(if they drop & raise or not).

Yes. Do test those things.

The trade in value for a 830 record at a Bernina dealer is $700. The same for a 930,too. All other old models only trade in for $100. So if you can get one for less, go for it. But make sure it is in good condition.

2 830s sold on Ebay in the last week, both over $800. The old Bernies are worth big money if they are mechanically sound. I found a local listing last week via Craigs List, brought home a pristine 930 for $500. Loving it! :D

Wow! Perhaps I need to buy that Bernina 830 that came into work on a trade last week. That was in mint condition and the owner is bringing all the feet when she comes back in July.
