I bought it at a garage sale for $25. Worked awesome but for a short time and then a piece broke out of the feed dog area and the knob broke off as well. Hubby says give it away, I want to fix it if it's not going to be really expensive... Anyone know? And is it a good machine and worth anything? Thank you!! I can post pictures if needed. It's a singer touch n sew Special Zig Zag model 648. Thanks!!!

Look on the internet there are some dealers
That carry replacement parts .
eBay is another place

Are you looking for new feed dogs? There are two types of feed dogs available, metal and rubber(at a much higher price). Rubber is what was originally on this series of machines but some users found that rubber and oil don't mix which resulted in...yuk. The metal ones are suitable for replacement. Here is another good source for parts.

Thanks Karen! I don't know a thing about it so I'll have to take it in. Just wanting to know if it was a good machine and worth anything? And thanks for the link. It helps to know what the feed dogs cost. 😊

I replaced the rubber feed dogs with metal feed dogs on an old Singer 600 series sewing machine a few years ago.If I remember correctly, there are only two screws that hold the feed dogs in place.

I noticed some online sellers sell parts for more money than a local area former long time Singer dealer,(he sells other brand sewing machines now),he had, maybe still has some old Singer parts in stock.I only paid around 5 dollars for the metal feed dogs.I like to suggest to call a few long time dealers in your neck of the woods and ask if they have any Singer 648 feed dogs.

Thanks! I called and he said $20 and $55 to put them in. I'm thinking I may just store the machine for now since I really need a workhorse machine. Thank you!!!

You can do it youself, take a screwdriver that fits well into the old screws and take them out.Remove the old feed dogs and put the new feed dogs in for less than 55 dollars.

Here is Edís blog with feed dog pictures.Who Let the Feed Dogs Out ?

ďJust pop off the throat plate, remove the two screws holding the feed dog and lift off the feed dog. Set the new piece in place, replace the two screws and reinstall the throat plate. Takes less than 15 minutes.
