My Ellure Plus (lightly used, 4 years old) is skipping multiple stitches in a row, and the automatic thread cutter has ceased to work. I have changed the needle, re-threaded, cleaned under the switch plate (OK, this should have happened earlier, but it is squeaky clean now). Anyone with similar problems, or, especially, a cure? (Yes, *of course* I am in the middle of a project with a deadline, and my closest dealer is 100 mi away!) Sewing on cotton broadcloth.

Have you tried a brand new bobbin? Is the bobbin put in correctly?

I've even had to use a different spool of thread. btw, is the thread spool set on its holder correctly? I've found my BL likes the thread spool to be loaded just a certain way.

Is the thread a different brand? BL's are very fussy about the brand of thread they like.

The bobbin has been changed several times for different projects, so I don't think that is the problem (and it is definitely a BabyLock bobbin). I am using Metrosene thread in a brand-new size 80 brand name needle, and have not had this problem until recently (4 year old machine). Currently, if you raise the presser foot with the needle down to turn a corner, it will skip the corner stitch. Also, in sewing through thickness (i.e., stitching a fully gathered skirt onto a bodice, all cotton broadcloth), it will skip every third to fifth stitch, and sometimes skip 2-3 in a row. The thread cutter problem is random. Since I cannot see exactly how the thread cutter works, I am guessing it occurs during a "skip stitch" moment...and then, of course, all the thread is stuck so that the stitched piece can't be moved out from under the presser foot. Onset of the stitch problem has been rather sudden; I've been noticing problems with the thread cutter for several months. Thank you so much for your reply and suggestions!

As must as I don't like to take my machines in for a good cleaning and check, after 4 years you may have to have it professionally cleaned and checked out.

The thread cutter not working may be the first indication that there is a bigger thread/lint build-up than you can see. Always somthin, innit?

Yes, summit it is! I talked with a technician at the nearest repair (Sharman Sewing Center, Longview, TX) who thinks I may have a timing problem if your/my/his checklists don't cure the problem. He at least promises that with advance notice, they will do a one day overhaul for me when I bring it in...I am very grateful for that word! Was able to finish my granddaughter's birthday sundress, and will now pull out my old backup Bernina to make its buttonholes w/o skipped stitches :}.

When that happened to me I had a huge thread not caught on the thread cutter and I think it caused timing issue cause I kept trying to use it jammed, so I bet if you serviced it, It would work like a champ. Sometimes we just have to give our babies the spa treatment
