I didn't even KNOW that I wanted a vintage machine!

My husband's employer has an internal classified and a coworker is retiring and heading south. They were selling tons of stuff and lo and behold, this sweet sewing machine was in the listings.

"I didn't know if you'd be interested" that husband of mine said.Wahhh? How could I not be!

Last night we picked the machine up and she didn't know the model but based on my Googling and a couple of Instagram friends it is a 158 series Kenmore (it does say Sears-Kenmore on the plate).

The former owner said she got it as a college graduation present from her mother in 1976. how sweet is that?!? She said it sews very well still but she just can't move it around anymore as it's too heavy. She got a new Janome to take with her to the new place. So for the low, low price of $10, this machine is now MINE. It has all of the original things like the manual and presser foot and all that. She has various cams, bobbins and some other goodies that I have yet to explore.

She even gave me two bags of stash fabric!

That is awesome! She was probably excited that it was going to somebody who will use it and enjoys sewing. It definitely looks like it was well taken care of!

...it seems to be a Kenmore 158.17501 made by MARUZEN in Japan from 1968 to 1977...

...a nearly unbreakable machine

Best regards from Switzerland

OH how lovely that machine is.I love that "Kenmore Green." I always look for my original machine in ads etc., and have never found one. You enjoy your new machine - there are lots of Kenmore cabinets out there waiting for you to put her in one. ;)

According to the vintage Kenmore Yahoo group, it dates to 1968. It looks nothing like my 158.1913 which I know is from 1976 because it was a wedding gift. Lots of info on the Yahoo group. Congratulations.
