I picked up a BabyLock Audrey yesterday to just travel with and I am so disappointed. I have an Ellisimo Gold, a Bernina 930 and a BabyLock Tiara... I just spent $499.00 on this little machine. She does have very pretty stitches and is super light weight but I don't think I can stand the noise. Sounds lick a grinding or growling noise. Anyone have an Audrey and is it suppose to sound like that? Thank you!

Audrey is not a quiet machine by any means, but I'm almost surprised the noise is bothering you if you have a Tiara. I traded in my Audrey last year, but I remember it being far more noisy than some of my other machines. It is mainly inexpensive plastic, and it doesn't have much in the way of materials to dampen the noise. My Tiara is way, way, WAY louder than any other machine I own (or have owned).

it doesn't matter what type of sewing you do. you are sewing, and sewing is good.

I think it's because Audrey was so tiny to have made a noise like that! I keep thinking it is coming from the bobbin area but she sews beautiful! My Tiara is a huge machine and yes it IS loud. That really bothered me a lot when I first got it, but when I saw what she could do... I forgot the noise! Lol!

Last year I bought a BL Xscape for travel. What a disappointment! In addition to annoying noises, it has a tendency to start sewing very slowly (regardless of pressure on the power pedal). This delay is accompanied by a growl. I asked the BL tech about it and he told me this was common on this machine (I believe I also posted about this on PR).

The stitching is so-so. I'm not in love and will likely part with this machine in the near future. The convenience for travel (and it IS terrific for tucking under the seat on a plane) isn't worth the aggravation.

Did you do a trial run before purchasing? Was it noisy then? If not, take it back in for the tech to give it a once over. It should be a free service as it is still under the warranty.

It's normal for the Audrey to have a growl. Mine did, and nothing was wrong with it - others have reported the same.

Which machine did you end up with? The babylock audrey reminds me of a Janome Jem Platinum - now that's a nice machine! Sturdy and cute too And doesn't seem loud.

I wrote an answer on the review written by the OP. I bought an Audrey in the Seattle area in May. Although "used", she was pristine and looked and felt never used and had all accessories and all parts still in plastic.

It was not that noisy - a tad louder than my Janomes. It was solid - has a lot of metal in the structure and was heavier than my Janome full size 8050, and my Kenmore Mini Ultra. It is a lovely machine - I sewed several cotton garments on it while in the area, as well as mended some heavier men's pants and some kids knit shirts. I did take out the bobbin case, give a brushing out and oil the wick, as well as oiling the needle bar. The machine was not even dirty in there but I always do that sort of maintenance, so I did it. Found it to be a stellar little machine.

Loved the stitch quality and the stitch array is crazy wonderful for such a small machine. I bought her in a pawn shop for 179. I think I got a heck of a deal. She's waiting for my return now - she is too heavy to cart on a plane in my opinion. Comes with the extension table, the case etc., and so on, and really a surprisingly nice machine. It should be nice at the retail price of this machine!

I had read some negative stuff here on PR, but i was happily surprised.
