I got an e-mail that Threads has their 2013 Archive DVD
25% off today. It's usually $100-so it would be $75. I
prefer actual paper to a DVD, but wouldn't want to store & catalog that many articles. Threads is the one magazine that I really like as their articles as I find them both relevant and understandable. I've also wondered about their Industry Insider DVDs. Has anyone bought their Archive DVD or their Industry Insider? Do you like it and actually use it, and how often? Or is it something that ends up collecting dust? Also what is your level of sewing? I've just started again after over 30 yrs so approx. advanced beginner. Would you think the DVDs helpful for someone at that level? Thanks for your input. Waiting to see before I make a decision.

I have an earlier version of the archives, I think the 2011 version. It includes every Threads magazine going all the way back to issue #1. You can use the default reader that comes with the archive, or view each issue in pdf format exactly as they were printed.

All those magazines would take up a lot of space, so for that reason alone it's worth it!

Molly,
I also have the 2011 version of the DVD, and paid $99 for it. I honestly consider it the *best* sewing purchase I have ever made. The articles, even the earliest ones, have information and instruction in techniques that are still every bit as useful today as they were years ago. I always search it first for anything I need or am interested in, and couldn't be happier with it. It's always so helpful to get an expert's views on how to do things. And often, there are articles by several experts on any particular subject.

Like you, I began to sew again after some years attending to other life activities. I consider myself "intermediate", but of course, that is SO subjective that it's likely meaningless. I am convinced that sewers of any level can benefit from the content of the DVD, and, in my opinion, will continue to find it useful as they increase their skill level.

All the issues are PDF files, and I sometimes print a page or two to take to the sewing room for reference when I am working on a particular fitting problem (I've got plenty of those!).

Good Grief, I sound like a commercial! I'm certainly not connected to Threads in any way, and have never even subscribed to the magazine, but I am very happy with the DVD.

I know $75 is not chicken feed, but they used to be $149, and I was thrilled to get the $99 price, so you have a chance at a real bargain.

If I can answer any other questions for you, please let me know.
Rose

I have an earlier version of the archives and have found it useful, easy to search and you can print specific pages if you need to. I was able to recycle all my old Threads magazines which opened up a lot of shelf space.

Annual updates are available for $39 I think. You must call in for the renewal.

I subscribed to Threads this year for the first time in a long time. How would I get on an email list that you referred to? Or how do I get info about these archives?
Thanks

The THREADS Archive CD-rom is definitely worth the money, especially at a sale price.

I guess I'm no longer on their mailing list. Is there a coupon code? My cart shows $99.
