Needles, how do you dispose of them?
Is there a safe way or correct way to discard needles?

Just curious if there is a proper way to dispose of used sewing needles.

I have a metal Altoids tin in my sewing room that used needles, bent pins and used rotary blades go into. When it fills up, I put the entire tin in the trash.

I use old glass spice jars that have a flip top with a shaker insert(thought the skaker part is not necessary). When full, I throw it away.

I have an empty prescription bottle - safety cap and all - and dump used needles in it. When full, enough, I toss it.

I use an old eye makeup remover pad jar that my DH drilled a tiny hole into the cover. I just slip them down there when they are used and I also unscrew the cap to dispose of rotary blades.

Also use old spice jars.

Well...specifically Trader Joe's oregano jars...

Broken/dull needles and bent pins go in there.

I'm lucky (?) that I have to have a sharps container on hand for medical stuff, so I stick sewing needles in there with my biohazardous sharps waste! If I didn't have that I'd probably use a little plastic jar (prescription bottle?) that could be sealed up to prevent any dangerous mishaps for anybody down the line. I know if I was handling garbage and something stuck me I'd immediately assume it was a hypodermic syringe or something, and boy, what a panic that would cause, not to mention unnecessary medical tests and treatment!

As I use needles I save the little containers they come in (Schmetz little flip-top thingys). I use a Sharpie and write 'old' on the front and as I change needles in my machine I stick the old needle in the old case. They hold 5 so when it's full I pitch it into the trash.

I use old jars for discarded pins, needles and assorted blades. When full I discard in the household garbage.

I always get told it's unnecessary but I'm sure the garbage collectors appreciate it.

Same - a tic tac or other mints container works for me.

Re: writing "old" on a needle case - my DH recently did me a huge favour by telling me that a lot of the batteries in the zip lock bag in the battery bin didn't work. I replied, "Oh, the bag that has DEAD written in big letters on it?"
