I am quilting this quilt and decided due to time restraints to just stitch in the ditch and around the flower petals.

The columns/strips are about 2 inches wide. Is stitching down the seams (ditch quilting) enough quilting or do I need to add some horizontal stitching as well to create squares? I like the look on the back with just the ditch quilting because it mirrors the front. But I also want the quilt to be quilted enough to hold together.

Finished quilt is going to be about 40 x 50.

Hope my question makes sense...

Thanks!!

What kind of batting are you using? Most batting packages here in the US say how far apart you can safely quilt the batting. If you don't quilt as closely as the wrapping says to quilt, the batting could shred, sag or separate in some way. If you're using woven fabric (like flannel or similar napped fabric) for fill you'll probably be ok without crosswise stitching.

This gives you a start and others will chime in, I'm sure.

Excellent!!

And Of Course!! (Where is the hand slapping the forehead emoticon? )

I still have the package and it says up to 6" apart. So... I guess I should do some crosswise stitches. Might be a great opportunity to use some deco stitches.
